For Robert Campbell, winning a World Series of Poker has been “so close yet so far” for four years. Ever since 2015, he has been making final tables but failing to come out on top – until now. After landing himself at eight final tables, Campbell has finally earned his first WSOP bracelet.
Campbell was able to take down the $1500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball tournament, earning $144,027. 467 runners registered for the tournament, creating a prize pool of $630,450.
A Long Way to Bracelet #1
You would think that a player who has made so many final tables yet has never come out on top would get discouraged, but not Campbell. He has remained determined to snag that bracelet, and his dedication has paid off.
With seven final tables behind him over the past four years, his most recent was during the $10,000 Omaha Eight or Better of this year’s WSOP. He finished in 5th, three days after just missing the final table of the $1,500 Dealers Choice by two places.
The total of all three cashes this year is an impressive $260,576. Since he first started attending the WSOP in 2015, Campbell has earned over $741,000 and has 17 cashes under his belt.
At the Final Table
Campbell had a bit of trepidation entering the final table of this event, but quickly snapped out of it and managed to land the win.
I did have a bit of, ‘oh here we go again.’ But straight away after dinner like three people just turbo busted. Then I was like alright I’ll just go cash game mode and see what happens,” Campbell said.
Going into the final table, Campbell was the chip leader with over 1.5 million chips. It was a strong lead, as the player with the second biggest stack was Aron Dermer with 800,00 chips. Jared Bleznick overtook the chip leader position when he eliminated Dermer – but was eventually busted by Campbell.
When the final tabled whittled down, it was Campbell heads-up against David Bach – a three-time WSOP bracelet winner. They faced off for a full two hours before Campbell was able to deny Bach his fourth bracelet win.
The final table results are as follows:
- Robert Campbell – $144,027
- David Bach – $88,995
- Jared Bleznick – $58,343
- Kyle Miaso – $39,126
- Jesse Hampton – $26,855
- Aron Dermer – $18,875
- Hanh Tran – $13,593
With this win, Robert Campbell has now found himself in fourth place on the Player of the Year leaderboard, behind Upeshka De Silva, Dan Zack and Scott Clements. If he continues making final tables and collecting bracelets, he could end up on top.
