Yesterday, record-breaking Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton made his debut at GGPoker. It was a big surprise for the poker world, and soon members of the online poker community were wondering if the soon-to-be 7-time world champion will become GGPoker’s latest ambassador.
LADIES & GENTLEMEN…
Please give a warm welcome, on his debut at the @GGPokerOfficial tables, to ? ? ?…

Will He Or Won’t He?
While members of poker forums are eager to find out if Hamilton will become a member of Team GG, the brand is keeping its cards close to its chest. According to a representative for the online poker site, Hamilton was “just a guest”.
Still, you would expect a celebrity to remain anonymous while playing poker online – unless they had bigger plans beyond simply entering a single tournament. So, a small part of me is still holding out hope that Hamilton will eventually become a name in the online poker world.
If he does, however, he’ll need a little bit of tutoring. Hamilton finished in 113th place (out of 130 players), after blinding out. It’s a rookie mistake, but understandable – and, with a little bit of help from GGPoker’s existing ambassador team, he should be running deep in no time.
Current GGPoker Ambassador Roster
GGPoker’s collection of ambassadors is pretty diverse, with streamers, high stakes players and legendary pros from all over the world. The current Team GGPoker consists of:
- Fedor Holz: A German poker pro, Holz ranks 8th on the Hendon Mod All-Time Money List with $32m in live tournament earnings. He has two WSOP bracelets to his name.
- Bertrand Grospellier: better known as ElkY, this French poker player first started out as an esports player. He has since gone on to win events in the WSOP, EPT and EPT.
- Daniel Negreanu: a veteran in the poker world, Negreanu won his first WSOP bracelet in 1998. Over the years, he has amassed over $42 million in live tournament winnings.
- Felipe Ramos: A Brazilian pro, Ramos is the latest player to join Team GG. He has won a number of high-profile international events and while he has yet to score a WSOP bracelet, Ramos’ star is definitely on the rise.
Athletes in the Poker World
Playing poker professionally requires a flexible schedule and lots of starting capital – making it a perfect fit for athletes. So, it’s no surprise that we’ve seen plenty of celebrity sports figures on the felt often.
Neymar Jr is one of the biggest sports stars to make a name for himself in the poker world. The Paris Saint-Germain forward has dozens of football awards under his belt, and was once a member of Team PokerStars. While he hasn’t run deep in many prestigious tournaments, Neymar Jr did make headlines for winning $20,000 in an online poker hand.
Another athlete who is well-known on the felt is Paul Pierce. While his game of choice is PLO, he is quite a talented Texas Hold’em player. In fact, Pierce managed to run pretty deep in the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event.
So, Lewis Hamilton will be in great company as an athlete in the poker realm. It would be great to see this talented driver trying his hand at another skillful sport. He’d certainly be a great fit for GGPoker, as a fellow Guinness World Record breaker.
