For poker players, Nebraska is thin: there is exactly one live poker room in the state, at Grand Island, and no online poker. So Nebraskans who want to play online casino games or poker use offshore sites, which carry no state licensing or protection. Many simply cross the river to Iowa, where Council Bluffs has several casinos, full mobile sports betting, and more poker — a short drive from Omaha.
The practical reality: Nebraska’s legal gambling is in person — five casinos, retail sportsbooks, one poker room at Grand Island, plus the lottery and keno. Statewide mobile betting is on the 2026 ballot but not yet law. For online casino and poker there’s no legal route, and many Omaha-area players just cross into Iowa.

Nebraska’s casino industry is brand new. Until voters approved gambling at racetracks in 2020, the state had no commercial casinos at all — now it has five, built fast. All sit at licensed horse tracks: WarHorse Lincoln and Omaha (run by a Winnebago Tribe company), Grand Island Casino Resort at Fonner Park, Harrah’s Columbus, and Lake Mac in Ogallala, with a sixth on the way in South Sioux City.
Alongside them are four small tribal casinos — Ohiya (Santee Sioux), Iron Horse and Native Star (Winnebago), and Lucky 77 (Omaha Tribe). These are Class II machine halls, much smaller than the new commercial racinos, and none spreads live poker.
For poker players, that’s the key fact: only one casino in Nebraska has a live poker room. Grand Island Casino Resort runs a six-table room with no-limit hold’em and Omaha plus a private tournament space. The big WarHorse casinos in Lincoln and Omaha have slots and table games but no live poker — so despite the new industry, real poker in Nebraska still means a trip to Grand Island, or across the border to Iowa.
