Bitcoin: the default way to fund online poker.

Bitcoin is the most widely accepted way to fund a gambling account — if a site takes crypto, it takes BTC. For US players it fixed the offshore deposit problem: no declined cards, no bank holds, no fees. You send it, you get credited, and your winnings come back the same way.

Block time ~10 min Lightning: near-instant
Network fees Under $1 spikes during congestion · Lightning <$0.01
Deposit speed 10–60 min or instant with Lightning
Withdrawal 1–24 hrs Lightning payouts in minutes
Privacy Pseudonymous no bank sees your transactions
Acceptance Universal every crypto site supports BTC
Two ways to move BTC

Standard Bitcoin vs. Lightning.

There are two ways to send Bitcoin, and the difference is enormous for gambling. Standard on-chain transactions are slower and can get expensive; the Lightning Network layers on top of Bitcoin for near-instant, near-free transfers. The rule is simple: if your site offers Lightning, always use it.

Standard on-chain BTC
Speed10–60 minutes
Fee$0.50 – $50+

Cost and speed swing wildly with network congestion. Fine for larger, non-urgent transfers.

⚡ Lightning Network

FeeUnder $0.01

A layer on top of Bitcoin for near-instant, near-free transfers. Ignition and Bovada support it for deposits and withdrawals.

The tutorial

How to create a wallet.

Before you can deposit, you need a place to hold your Bitcoin that you control. A non-custodial wallet takes about five minutes to set up and is free. Follow these steps exactly — the two flagged with a warning are where people lose money.

1

Download from the official source only

Get the wallet from the developer's real website or your phone's official app store — never a link in an email, ad, or DM. Fake wallet apps exist solely to steal your coins. Verify the publisher name before installing.

2

Create a new wallet

Open the app and choose "Create new wallet." It will generate a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase). This phrase IS your money — anyone who has it controls your Bitcoin.

3

Write the recovery phrase on paper

Write all the words down by hand, in order, on paper. Store it somewhere safe and offline. Never screenshot it, never type it into notes, email, or cloud storage. Phones get hacked; paper in a drawer does not.

4

Lock the app

Set a strong password and enable biometric (Face ID / fingerprint) unlock. This protects the app on your device — but remember, the recovery phrase can restore your wallet anywhere, so the phrase is what really matters.

5

Get your receive address

Tap "Receive" to see your Bitcoin address and QR code. This is what you share to get paid. It's safe to share — it only lets people send you BTC, never take it.

6

Fund it with a small test first

Buy BTC on an exchange (or receive it), then send a small amount to your wallet first to confirm everything works before moving larger sums. Test transactions cost pennies and prevent expensive mistakes.

Three wallets we recommend

All three are free, non-custodial (you hold your own keys), and support Bitcoin. Pick by how you like to work.

Trust Wallet

Best all-round mobile

A hugely popular mobile-first wallet (with a browser extension) that holds Bitcoin alongside thousands of other assets. Simple enough for a first-timer, non-custodial so you hold your own keys, and free. The easiest starting point for most gamblers.

  • Mobile + browser extension
  • Non-custodial
  • BTC + thousands of coins
  • Free

Phantom

Best multi-chain

A slick multi-chain wallet that now supports Bitcoin alongside Solana, Ethereum, Base, and Polygon. Great if you hold several coins and want one clean app for all of them. Browser extension plus mobile, with a polished, beginner-friendly interface.

  • Browser extension + mobile
  • Non-custodial
  • BTC, SOL, ETH + more
  • Free

Exodus

Best desktop experience

A desktop-and-mobile multi-coin wallet with a built-in exchange and a famously clean interface. Supports BTC plus 100+ other coins. The built-in swap is convenient, though its rates aren't always the cheapest — fine for the convenience.

  • Desktop + mobile
  • Non-custodial
  • BTC + 100+ coins
  • Built-in swap

How to deposit & withdraw.

With a funded wallet, depositing takes a couple of minutes. The flagged steps are the ones to slow down on — Bitcoin transactions can't be reversed.

1

Open your casino deposit page

Log in, go to the cashier or deposit screen, and select Bitcoin as your method. If a separate Lightning option appears, prefer it for speed and lower fees.

2

Copy the casino's BTC address

The site shows a unique Bitcoin address and a QR code. Copy the address or scan the QR with your wallet. Double-check the first and last few characters match — malware can swap a copied address.

3

Send from your wallet

Paste the address into your wallet, enter the amount, and confirm. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible — a wrong address means permanent loss, so verify before you hit send.

4

Wait for confirmations

Most casinos credit after 1–3 network confirmations — usually 10–60 minutes on standard BTC, or seconds on Lightning. You can watch progress in your wallet.

5

Play

Your balance appears in USD, converted at the current exchange rate. Most sites charge zero fees on Bitcoin deposits.

Withdrawing your winnings Go to withdrawals, select Bitcoin, paste your own wallet address, and choose your amount. Processing takes 1–24 hours depending on the site; once sent, standard BTC arrives within an hour and Lightning payouts in seconds. Never withdraw straight to an exchange — withdraw to your personal wallet first (more on why next).
The distinction that protects you

Your wallet is not your exchange.

This is the single most important thing to understand. An exchange (Coinbase, Kraken, Cash App) is where you buy and sell BTC for dollars. Your wallet is where you hold and spend it. Keep them separate — and never send coins directly between an exchange and a casino in either direction.

Exchange Coinbase · Kraken · Cash App
  • Best place to buy & sell BTC for US dollars
  • Familiar, bank-linked, easy to fund
  • Custodial — they hold your keys and can freeze funds
  • Requires full ID verification (KYC)
  • Many ban gambling-related transactions outright
Your own wallet Trust Wallet · Phantom · Exodus
  • Non-custodial — you alone control the coins
  • No one can freeze or reverse your funds
  • Pseudonymous — no gambling flag on a bank account
  • Free, instant to set up, no permission needed
  • You are responsible for your recovery phrase
⚠ Exchange ban risk Many major exchanges’ terms of service prohibit gambling-related activity, and they actively flag transactions to and from known casino addresses. Coinbase and others have frozen or closed accounts over it — potentially locking up your whole balance. Read your exchange’s terms before you do anything, and always route through your own wallet: buy on the exchange → withdraw to your wallet → send to the casino, and the exact reverse when cashing out. That extra hop is what keeps your exchange account safe.

Staying safe

Crypto puts you in control — which means the security is on you too. Four habits that prevent almost every common loss.

Guard the recovery phrase

It's the master key. Paper only, offline, never shared. No legitimate service will ever ask for it — anyone who does is scamming you.

Verify every address

Check the first and last characters before sending, every time. Address-swapping malware is real, and Bitcoin sends are irreversible.

Beware phishing

Bookmark your casino and wallet sites. Don't click links in emails or ads. Fake login pages and fake wallet apps are the #1 way people lose crypto.

Always test first

Send a small amount before a large one — to a new wallet, a new casino, or a new exchange. A few cents in fees beats losing a full deposit.

The honest scorecard

Bitcoin’s pros & cons.

Bitcoin is the universal standard, but it isn't always the cheapest or fastest option. Here's the straight trade-off.

The upside
  • Universal acceptance — every crypto casino supports BTC. The one method that always works.
  • Bypasses banking restrictions — no declined cards, no cash-advance fees, no UIGEA hassles for US players.
  • Lightning Network makes deposits and withdrawals near-instant at supported sites.
  • Privacy — no gambling activity shows up on your bank statement.
The trade-offs
  • Standard on-chain fees are unpredictable — $1 when quiet, $20–50+ during congestion.
  • Slow without Lightning — 10–60 minute confirmation time for standard transactions.
  • Price volatility — BTC can move 5–10% in a day, so your deposit value fluctuates.
  • Irreversible — a wrong address or amount cannot be undone.

Before your first deposit

Three steps from dollars to the table.

01

Set up a wallet you control.

Trust Wallet, Phantom, or Exodus — free, five minutes, non-custodial. Write the recovery phrase on paper and guard it. That wallet, not an exchange, is your hub.

02

Route everything through your wallet.

Buy on an exchange, move to your wallet, then send to the casino — and the reverse to cash out. The extra hop keeps your exchange account off the gambling radar.

03

Use Lightning, verify every address.

Lightning is instant and nearly free when offered. On standard BTC, check fees first and double-check the address — sends are irreversible. Then play.
